I came upon basket making almost by accident, a present from a friend for looking after their animals whilst they were on holiday. But I was hooked - before long I had set up my own business - Kibsey Craft - a kibsey being the Romany word for a basket.

For the last thirteen years I have worked from my home in a small Welsh village, producing a range of baskets for the domestic market. Some of these are traditional such as country baskets, fruit baskets and wash baskets and some more contemporary like trays and baskets for kitchen units, but all using the same techniques and weaves that have been used for the last two thousand years.

During this time I have worked with both Welsh and Irish basket makers adding to my knowledge of patterns and materials. I work mainly with willow grown on the Somerset Levels and in the autumn, locally collected hedgerow materials such as ivy, dogrose, bramble and dogwood.

I demonstrate all aspects of basket making thoughout the country, and have seen projects using greenwoods flourish and become commercially viable.
